John Waldman was a native of Germany and emigrated to the District of Columbia in 1865. He had conducted a tailoring business for more than 50 years. At the time of his death the business was located at 903 Fifteenth Street. He was a member of Armenius Lodge F.A.A.M., Scottish Rite, Almas Temple, Shrine and other Masonic bodies. He had been a director of the Washington Permanent Building Association for 15 years and was a former president of the German Sangerbund. He died at age 84 on Saturday, January 7, 1933 at Garfield Hospital. Survivors included two sons: William of Milwaukee and Frederick of the District. Funeral services were held at his residence, 2730 Chesapeake Street. Interment was at Rock Creek Cemetery.
