Anton Wallner was the son of Peter Wallner and Julianna Lamprecht Wallner of Halbenrain, Austria. Anton apprenticed in Austria to become a baker. In May of 1882 he sailed to the United States on the ship Prague, arriving in New York 5/24/1882. He settled in New Bedford where he opened Wallner Bakery on Achusnet Ave. He married Annetta (Anna) Sirk, who was a domestic at the Wallner farm in Austria. They were married March 3, 1888 just two weeks after she had arrived in America. Anton and Anna raised a family of 5 girls and 4 boys in New Bedford.

Anton Wallner became a citizen of the United States on August 22 1891.

There was a great interest in music in the Wallner family, and all of Anton's children learned to play instruments, and would often play together as an ensemble.

Anton liked to take walks in the woods, and his favorite walking partner was his daughter Nora. Anton was versed in identification of edible mushrooms, and he would often find and harvest some to have with dinner. They would also pick wild blueberries, blackberries and grapes.

Anton also had an interest in gymnastics and was founder and first president of the “Duetches Turnen Verein” in New Bedford (German Gymnastics Society).
