Mr. Earl Pollard Popham, age 83 of McDonough, GA passed away March 2, 2009.

Mr. Popham was one of twelve children born to Mr. E. O. and Mrs. Minnie Mae Ferrell Popham. Mr. Earl Popham served his country well aboard the U.S.S. Sepulga in the South Pacific during WWII, where he saw much action while refueling many warships at sea including the infamous Battleship U.S.S. Missouri and the Carrier, U.S.S. Yorktown and the U.S.S. Saratoga.

After returning from the war, he married Ms. Ruth Hoisington from Cincinnati and they together had six lovely daughters, Ellen, Ann, Marsha, Sara, Dot and Patti. All are married with children and live in Georgia.

Later he remarried to his wife Marie and lived in McDonough, Georgia for the past 30 years. He drove trucks and busses most of his life. He was a colorful man who enjoyed much laughter and debate and never met a stranger or a person he didn't like. He was a people pleaser whose favorite pleasure was to cook for them and to make them comfortable. Earl Popham's life was a living testimony to the Spirit of the Greatest Generation and a story rich with personal struggles and triumphs which he and many young southern men, farm-boys with limited educations, faced after leaving the farm in Cobb County after WWII to seek opportunity in the new urban life and their place in it's competitive order. Through all of his life, he remained optimistic and creative and loyal to his family, friends and to his country, America.

Mr. Popham died peacefully on March 2nd and now lives in the House of our Lord. Mr. Earl Popham's life will be remembered at a graveside memorial service conducted by Mr. Elliott Popham to be commenced at 2:00 PM, Friday March 27, 2009 at the City of Kennesaw Cemetery in downtown Kennesaw, Georgia.
