Sam was born in Burlington, the son of Allen David and Anne Morgan Moore. He graduated Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA., and served in the U.S. Air Force. Sam attended the University of North Carolina where he received a degree in business.
After graduation Sam began working for Westinghouse Electric throughout the southeast, after which he joined Engineered Plastics in Gibsonville, NC. In 1973 he founded the Sam W. Moore & Associates real estate company which he managed until 2005 when it was merged with Allen Tate Realtors where he continued to work as an active broker.
During his successful 39 year career, Sam developed the residential sub-divisions of Meadowood Lakes in Mebane and Brookfield in Gibsonville, served as President of the Burlington-Alamance County Association of Realtors in 1980, was named Realtor of the Year in 1993, served on the board of several local banks, and was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year in 2004 from the Alamance Chamber of Commerce Small Business Awards. His involvement with several local and national businesses helped foster economic growth and development in Alamance County.
Sam is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Anne Morgan Moore-Colgin, first wife Judy Knowles Moore, and second wife Gayle Mahaffey Moore.
He is survived by his wife, Carole Lineberry-Moore; two brothers: Thomas Morgan Moore of Warrenton, Va. and Marie Moore and Allen David Moore of Wilmington, N.C.; children: Susan Scarborough Fox, Cliford William Scarborough, Robert Gibbes Scarborough, Jr., William Edward Clark, III, and Richard Maus Johnson, III (Beau) his wife Denise; and grandchildren: Elizabeth Gayle Fox, Sarah Gray Fox and Richard Maus Johnson, IV.
Sam will be remembered by family and loved ones as a loving husband, father and good friend. He was a person always quick with a smile and a laugh who understood that the enjoyment of life comes from the fun had along the way.
