David Rinkema, 79, of Springfield died Friday at St. John's Hospital. He was born July 17, 1918, in South Holland, the son of Peter and Minnie DeRuiter Rinkema. He married Tempe L. Gillespie in 1940; she preceded him in death in 1994.
Mr. Rinkema, a resident of Springfield most of his life, was employed by Fiat Allis as a vice president product engineer. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Survivors: a daughter, Mrs. Karen Haywood; two sons, James D. Rinkema and Richard D. Rinkema; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harry Rinkema of Naperville.
Services: Staab Funeral Home. Burial: Oak Ridge Cemetery.
