Durward R. "Doc" Howell, 93 of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville. He was a native of White Rose, KY, served in the U. S. Army Air Corp during WWII and was a member of Elizabethtown Baptist Church. He was a Chiropractor in Elizabethtown for several years and retired after 30 years as the Assistant Port Director for U.S. Customs in Louisville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Clara Belle Stark Howell; a grandson, Jason Howell; his parents, Edward Jefferson and Adelaide Wood Howell and a brother, Albert Howell. He is survived by a son, Fred (Betty) Howell of Elizabethtown; three daughters, Elaine (Alan) Nations of Fairdale, Brenda Morris and Jo Ellen Gano both of Louisville; seven grandchildren, Savannah Morris, Gavin Morris, Jared Gano, Jonathan Gano, Alyssa (Steven) Lewis, Cara Gano and Aaron Pitt and one great grandchild, Oliver Penix. The funeral will be Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Lovell officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m Monday and continue after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Contributions to the Disabled American Veterans.
