Newell E. Boughton, Jr. passed from this life on July 11 at his home in Ranchos de Taos. He is predeceased by his wife Danna, his sister Doris and her husband Robert Bekins, and his nephew Christopher Bekins. He is survived by: his wife of 25 years Mary Ann; his son Newell E. He was a Native of Dallas, an alumnus of Texas A&M, the University of Texas, and the University of Southern Cal. graduating with a BS in Civil Engineering. He proudly served as a Naval Officer in WWII and Korea. His engineering career included: working on the Panama Canal with Beck; he was the first VP of construction for Trammel Crow, and he eventually ran his own light industrial development firm. After being widowed, he said he liked marriage so much he'd try it again, and remarried Mary Ann at age 73, whose children and grandchildren, Georgia and Henry, he adored. He has been a citizen of Taos for 25 years, where he sang in the choir of St. James and belonged to the Old Geezers Club and the Lion's Club. He was a charter member of the Piedras Valley Think Tank. He skied 'til he was 89, fly fishing, and hiked 'til he just couldn't. He was an avid historian of all things New Mexican Spanish Colonial and voraciously read up until his death. He was ever gregarious, never met a stranger, and was always ready with a joke and a kind word. He was always a practicing member of his church community wherever he lived and died peacefully as a friend of the Lord Jesus. He will be dearly missed by his family and innumerable friends.
