Hundreds Crowd Church When Funeral Of Accident Victims Is Held.
Kalispell, July 11 - The funeral of Floyd Ripke and his two children, Donna May and Theodore Virgil, who lost their lives when their car went off the Holt ferry the night of July 4, was one of the largest in the history of Kalispell. Every seat in the Presbyterian church was filled and a hundred persons were standing, and the cortege that followed the funeral car to Conrad Memorial cemetery was of such length that the first cars were on the grounds before many had left Second street in Kalispell.
The funeral was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. W. L. Bennett of the Methodist church in Somers, and Dr. B. Scott Bates, pastor of the Kalispell Presbyterian church, officiating. Mrs. Wayne Hagle of Somers and Clyde Carr sang special solos.
The white casket in which the bodies of the two children were placed was borne by Lillian A. Peterson, Carrie Weed, Maxine Waring and Thelma Jelleff, all of Bigfork.
Bearers for Mr. Ripke were G. L. Bartlett, Kenneth Paul, G. A. Bjork, Philip Peterson, J. A. Morton and George Paul, all of Bigfork.
Mr. Ripke, though born at New Boston, Mo. in May, 1902, grew up on the ranch near Bigfork, where he was living at the time of his death. Besides Mrs. Ripke he leaves a sister, Mrs. Walter Fox of Creston, and three brothers, Ralph Ripke, sheriff of Flathead county, Francis of Kalispell and Ray of Creston.
Mrs. Ripke was driven to her former home in Stevensville Monday by Ralph Ripke, to attend the funeral of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lockridge of Stevensville, also victims of the accident.
