She was the daughter of William and Martha (nee Robertson) Ellis; her first husband was Richard Beasley. They were married and then divorced after which they remarried. It is believed that Richard died in 1869 although one record has 1867. No information has been found as to his burial location, but Winnie is in the 1870 census with some of her children. She died of heart disease according to her death certificate.
