Don was born May 4, 1929 to Olaf and Lula (Bagg) Olstad in Blooming Prairie. He served in the United States Army from 1949-1951. Don was united in marriage to Lois Dunn in Osage, Iowa on September 7, 1954. After Lois's passing in 1972, Don married Jacquelin Schmidt on September 21, 1974 in Mankato. He worked as a truck driver for North Star Concrete and as a mechanic for Southern Valley Co-Op. In his free time Don enjoyed stock car racing, woodworking, visiting friends, camping, and spending winters in Texas. He was a member of the Eagle Lake Legion.
He is survived by his children, Deborah (Gary DeGarmo) Ashton of Remer, Lee Olstad of Remer, and Lori (Matt Erickson) Bode of Mankato; step children, Bruce Schmidt of Mankato, Brad Schmidt of Mankato, and Beth (Mike) Pauma of Lake Crystal; grandchildren; great grandchildren; close family friend, Carol Leverson; and many nieces and nephews.
Don is preceded in death by his great granddaughter, Emma; two wives, parents, three sisters, three brothers, and niece.
