Isaac Mitchell was the eldest son of Abraham MITCHELL and Lucinda "Lucy" WILSON. He grew up in Ashe County, North Carolina, just south of the Virginia border and on the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The area where he grew up is now in Alleghany Co., NC. When he was born the area was sparsely settled. Some of the first settlers made a living by trapping.
