JOHN ELLWOOD DIES IN QUINCY

John Ellwood was born in Logan County, Ohio, on Sept. 26, 1842, passed away at the Soldiers' Home Hospital at Quincy, Illinois, March 31, 1915, at 5:30 o'clock p.m., at the age of 73 years, 6 months, and 6 days.

In 1862, when our country was enveloped in war, Mr. Ellwood enlisted in the 2nd Illinois Calvary, Co. 2, and participated in some of the decisive battles of that war, among them the battle of Vicksburg and Memphis, Tenn. AT the latter place he received his first and only wound of the war. On August 11, 1867, he was united in marriage to Miss. Elizabeth Morris, to which union were born five children. These are: C.F. Ellwood of Rushville, Missouri; Mrs. Oscar Varner of Keokuk, Iowa; Mrs. Clara Walker of Quincy, Illinois; Mrs. W. E. Bryant and Deoh Ellwood, both of Clayton, Illinois. there are left to mourn his death, his wife and five children and nine grandchildren.

The Grand Army assisted in the burial service with Thomas May, Chas. Wilson, J.H. Yeidell, Geo. Hatch, Jake Davis and John Stiffy as pallbearers. Rev. S.M. Edwards officiated.
