WILLIAM ELWOOD, SR. born Logan County, Ohio the son of Thomas ELWOOD, SR. and Susanna KERNS. William married Mrs. Mariah Jane PERRIGO TAYLOR on December 17, 1863 in Quincy, Adams County, Illinois. Together William and Mariah Jane Elwood had seven children whom they raised on the family farm in Shelby County, Missouri. On April 30, 1885 William Elwood died while crossing the Fabius River by horse drawn wagon. He was the father of sons John, William and Mack Elwood and daughters Susanna Elwood Schnitger, Mollie Elwood Heath, Isabelle Elwood Bowers Turner Lair and Emma Elwood Lair-
