Joann Kathleen Andersen was born on November 7, 1926, in Vinton, the daughter of Gerald and Sarah (Davis) Bergen. She attended West High School in Waterloo.

On January 4, 1946, Joann was united in marriage to Arnold Andersen at North Minister Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. She worked at Rankins Manufacturing Company, Meany Casket Company, Powers Manufacturing Company, and demonstrated Stanley Home Products, Sarah Coventry Jewelry, Park Lane Jewelry, Better Homes and Gardens, and Art Craft.

Joann was also an Ordained Deacon at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Waterloo where she was involved with various church bazaars and the church cookbook.

She enjoyed camping and boating with family and friends, crafts, ceramics, knitting, needlework, and was a 30+ year member of the Rose O’Neill Club.

Joann died at the age of 90, a few days after her birthday party, on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at Pinnacle Specialty Care in Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Bryan; three brothers, Norman, Russell, and Darell; and a sister, Naomi.

Joann is survived by a daughter, Becky Anderson of Waterloo; two sons, Kevin Andersen of Grundy Center and Kurt (Deanne) Andersen of St. Michael, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and a great great granddaughter.

Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
