Obituary in The Shreveport Times August 29, 2014:

Dear Friends, Our mom, Brevard, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 of lung cancer, without having smoked a day in her life. This was a trial she endured while keeping an upbeat and optimistic attitude. She fortunately endured all treatments with few side effects and beat the odds time after time. She was blessed to have been in the care of Dr. Bob Massingill, Dr. Paul Schuler and Sister Suny in Shreveport, Dr. Bonnie Glisson at M.D. Anderson in Houston, and Dr. Alice T. Shaw at Massachusetts General in Boston.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Monday, September 1st at Osborn Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:00am on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at First United Methodist Church on Texas Street with Dr. Pat Day officiating. A burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery after the service.

Our Mom was born on September 27, 1952 to our grandparents Justice Pike Hall, Jr. and Anne Oden Hall. Her father, as did her grandparents, Weyman and Alice Oden and Hazel and Pike Hall, preceded her in death. She is survived by her mother, Anne Oden Hall, and the three of us, Kathryn Knight Wood and husband David, Emily Elizabeth Knight, and Alice Brevard Knight. Two of the most precious things in this world to her were her granddaughters, Caroline Anne Wood and Camille Andrews Wood. She is also survived by her brother, Pike Hall, III, and his girlfriend, Kelly Renee LaLonde, and her niece and nephew, Regan Hall Baker and husband Michael, and Pike Hall, IV, along with her great-niece, Mary Collins Baker, and great-nephew, Grayson Cole Hall. Also, two dear cousins, Verien Schaffer and Amie Springmeyer, who were like sisters to her, and aunts and uncles, Lillian and Syl Breard, Margaret Oden, and Hazel Schaffer.

Our mom attended elementary school at Arthur Circle and South Highlands where she met people who are still some of her best friends today. Her junior high years were spent at Broadmoor Junior High and she graduated from Captain Shreve High School in 1970. She celebrated her 40th high school reunion in April 2010, which was just one of the many projects she delighted in putting together.

Our mom spent her college years at LSU in Baton Rouge. She graduated in 1974 with a degree in Elementary Education and taught in Caddo Parish for twelve years. At LSU, she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. To this day, some of her closest friends are sorority sisters with whom she continued to enjoy time. The three of us proudly followed in her footsteps and pledged Chi O at LSU. Some of our most fun mother/daughter times were spent in Baton Rouge at sorority bid days and initiations and at LSU football games.

She was presently working for Mr. Bo Campbell, and at one time Mr. Mike Wayda, at Capital One where she enjoyed seven and a half wonderful years in their employment. They were very supportive during her absences, as were all her friends at Capital One. Her wonderful job with Mr. Campbell and Mr. Wayda gave her the flexibility to plan and complete all her many projects, to travel, and to be with her family at any time. She loved her job and looked forward to it every day.

We are especially thankful for the love and hospitality that our mom always showed to our friends. Throughout the years, she gladly welcomed our friends into our house at anytime and they always came and left receiving a hug. She loved all our friends and they loved her back. That meant everything to us when we were growing up.

Pallbearers will be Keith Bourque, Mark Florsheim, Gene Hilliard, Ed Johnson, Richard Johnson, Doug Moreau, Alan Murphy, Walter Smith and Mike Tingle. Honorary pallbearers will be her closest friends.

Last but not least, in lieu of flowers, Mom would be grateful and we would be honored if you sent a memorial to First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 1567, Shreveport, LA 71165, LSU Health Physician Assistant Program, P. O. Box 33932, Shreveport, LA 71130-3932, Mission of Hope Haiti, 1907 Cypress Creek Road, Suite 106, Cedar Park, TX, 78613, and MD Anderson Cancer Center, P. O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486.
