Barbara Elaine Lance, 80, of Arden, N.C. passed away at her residence on Wednesday, November 16, 2016.

A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Maybelle Rice Metcalf and was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister in law.

She was survived by her loving husband, French McKinley Lance, Jr.; six sons, Michael Lance, Jeffrey Lance (Dianne), Steven Lance (Theresa), Eric Lance, Roy Lance (Marie) and Barry Lance (Kathy); one sister, Caroleen Payne; one brother, Calvin Metcalf, as well as eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild and one more on the way.

Barbara loved to cook and spend time with her family. She and French also enjoyed time spent with the Avery's Creek Senior Citizens Club.

A Memorial Service was held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2016 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The family received friends at the funeral home following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family graciously ask that memorial donations be made in Barbara's memory to Four Seasons Compassion For Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
