He served in World War II in the 1455th Engineering Battalion, in Azores, as a Sargent. While in the military, Joseph served as a firefighter and received the American Theater and EAME medal and others for his loyal service. He was married to Micaela O. Rendon for 71 loving years. In that time they had 5 children, 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren, all of which affectionately refer to him as 'Poppi'.
A man of faith and service, Joseph was an active member of the Catholic War Veterans and Cursillo at the Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. In Del Rio, Joseph served as President of the Lion's Club. Joseph spent his last days at Frank Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents Mercy M. Rendon, Sr. and Sally Tijerina Rendon; loving wife, Micaela O. Rendon; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Martinez; sisters, Stella Deleon and Louisa Garcia; brothers, Mercy Rendon, Jr., Alfred T. Rendon and Rudy T. Rendon.
Visitation Monday, November 21, 2016 at 8:15am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with a funeral mass at 9am. Burial at Catholic Cemetery #3.
