The Austin Daily Herald 1953-09-16 page 17: Henrietta Osmundson was born February 23, 1870, the daughter of John and Serena Osmundson in Marshall Township, northeast of Adams.
She was baptized in the Little Cedar Lutheran Church by Rev. Eggen and attended the local country school. On July 12, 1885, she was confirmed by Rev. Eggen. She was in partnership with Mary Anderson as dress maker in the Village of Adams for several years, and also worked in the local hotel for sometime.
On June 1, 1897, she was united in marriage to Andrew O. Ulven of Adams. To this union was born one son, Joel. They lived for 17 years on a farm north of Taopi until they moved to the village of Adams for one year when they were building on their farm one mile north of Adams. After living on this farm for several years, they moved into the village of Adams in 1922.
She had been a life-long member of the Little Cedar Lutheran Church, and has taken an active part in the work of the Ladies' Aid and of Mission Circle no. 9. In 1952, she was honored by receiving a Life Membership pin in the Women's Missionary Federation of The Evangelical Lutheran Church. She took an active part in the affairs of the community until her health failed her.
On January 17, 1947, Mr. and Mrs. Ulven were honored at a special observance in honor of their golden wedding anniversary in the Little Cedar Lutheran Church. A large number of relatives and friends came to do them honor at this time.
Several years ago she suffered a stroke from which she recovered. About 2 years ago, a second stroke followed which confined her to her home for several weeks. On June 18, 1953, she had the misfortune to fall and break her leg while attending a Norwegian Tea at the Little Cedar Lutheran Church. She was confined to the St. Olaf Hospital for several weeks and has been confined to her home ever since, being able to be about the house in a wheelchair from time to time.
On Saturday morning, September 5, she suffered a third stroke which left her paralyzed, and from which she never regained consciousness. She passed away at 9:30 PM at her home on Wednesday, September 9, 1953, at the age of 83 years, 6 months, and 17 days.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Andrew O. Ulven, her son, Joel Ulven, and grandson, Ronald Ulven. In addition there are a host of relatives and friends in Adams and vicinity.
She was the last survivor in a family of five girls, and one son, the others being Mrs. Andrew O. (Hannah) Wiste; Mrs. Ole A. (Isabelle) Ulven, Mrs. Ole (Caroline) Wiste; Mrs. Chris (Rachael) Johnson, and Mr. Henry Osmundson.
She will be remembered as a gracious hostess and friend to all who knew her.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 12 from the Adams Funeral Home, and from the Little Cedar Lutheran Church. M.L. Witte, pastor. Interment was in the Little Cedar Cemetery beside the remains of Mrs. Joel Ulven, who was laid to rest two weeks ago, Saturday, August 29. The Ladies of Mission Circle 9 of which Mrs. Ulven was a member served lunch at the church following the service.
Andrew Ulven and Henrietta Osmundson were married on 2/6/1897. Attendants were Sven Hegge and Ole Ulven.
