Henry David Lenocker, son of Jacob B. and Barbara Lenocker, was born in Holmes Co., Ohio, August 31, 1858 and passed away at the family home in Dexter, Iowa, January 2, 1938.
Mr. Lenocker came with his parents, in early life, to Henry Co., Illinois and in 1870 the family moved to Madison County, Iowa. Here he grew to young manhood. He attended college in Bloomington, Illinois and later taught school in Madison County, Iowa.
In 1882 he was united in marriage with Josephine Brown and for thirty years they journeyed happily together through life. Six years were spent in Ft. Colorado. In 1912 he was bereft of his companion and in 1915 he began to make his home with his mother in Dexter, Iowa.
A number of years ago he united with the Presbyterian church and remained a member as long as he lived. For several years he was a member of the I.O.O.F. He was strictly honest in his dealings with his fellow men and was kind hearted to everyone. He was an excellent citizen and a good friend to everyone. He took a deep interest in beautifying the Dexter cemetery and stood for those things that make a better community. He was elected city clerk April 12, 1921 and held that office until the time of his decease. He was faithful to his work up to the very last.
Since last October he has been failing in health and had just recuperated from a case of pneumonia. Just the last two weeks he had been able to be on the streets and was down town last Saturday. He took seriously ill Sunday and in a few minutes he had answered the last roll call. His last words were "I'll be all right soon".
Mr. Lenocker leaves the following relatives to mourn his departure, his sisters: Mary E. Larkey of Fruitvale, Idaho; Lina Rankin of Cambridge, Nebraska; Nellie C. Williams, Arta B. Lenocker and Josephine Hammond of Dexter; Helen P. Linn of Bruce, South Dakota; Lura L. Hill of Valley Junction, Iowa; Irene L. Hill of Redfield, Iowa with a host of relatives and friends, all of whom will miss this good man.
