Nora Mary Kerr, 91, of Brady, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in Brady. No services will be held at this time. A private family service will be held at a later date.

She was born Feb. 18, 1913, in Sheffield, England, to Richard and Mary Avery. She was a nurse at the time of WWII and later she owned and operated a dog grooming shop called Fiesta Grooming Center in San Antonio for many years. She was a member of Christian Community Church and a resident of the area since 1983. Her father had a career in the British Army, and Nora spent her childhood in India and on the Jersey, Channel Islands, United Kingdom. In 1950, she immigrated to Dallas with her husband, Roland Sykes, and their two children, Lewis and Pamela. In 1971, she married Arthur (Red) Kerr. They traveled all over the nation, and after living in Virginia for many years, the couple settled in Brady in 1983 to be near family. They were active at the Sunset Senior Center and were volunteers for Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include a son, Lewis Sykes of San Francisco, Calif.; a daughter, Pamela Roper and husband, Richard, of Brady; a brother, Len Avery and wife, Kit, of the United Kingdom; a sister, Grace Crumpton, also of the United Kingdom; a granddaughter, Avery Bernard and husband, David, of Brady; three great-grandchildren, Anslie, Ashlan and Kelton Bernard, all of Brady; and her best friend, companion and partner, Deen Todd of Brady.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and a brother, Richard (Dick) Avery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
