Edward Wood
(January 12, 1951 - November 8, 2016)

Edward Wood, 65, formerly of Adairsville returned to the Lord at 10:43 am on Tuesday, November 8th, 2016, at Baptist Health in Madisonville, Kentucky, due to secondary complications from a vehicular accident earlier this year.

Edward, the youngest of seven sons, was born January 12, 1951, in Rome to Marrowl and Becky (Monday) Wood of Adairsville. He spent most his life in Bartow County near his beloved Adairsville. He attended Adairsville High School where he excelled at football, baseball, basketball, track and field, and wooing his future wife. After earning numerous football awards and setting records, he was scouted by several universities. In 1969 he accepted a full athletic scholarship to the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, thus becoming the first Tiger to do so.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed many trades including his first job as a soda jerk at Adairsville Drug to his last job as a plant manager at Crescent Extrusion in Cartersville. His exceptional people skills and leadership and problem solving abilities made him a remarkable asset to every position he ever held.
His only true source of pride was his family. He lavished tremendous amounts of love, patience, kindness, and gentleness on his wife, children, and grandchildren. His easy-going demeanor, love of fun, and penchant for humor made him easy to love and impossible to forget. His passion for classic cars was matched only by his love of music, Star Trek, and Reese’s Cups.

He spent his last week of life declaring God’s existence and testifying of God’s love to family and every doctor, nurse, and passerby who would listen. He joyously anticipated basking in the presence of the Lord, and he met his maker with a clean heart.

He was predeceased by his hardworking, kind father, Marrowl Wood; his exceptionally dedicated and supportive parents-in-law, George and Mary (Murphy) Adams; and three of his older brothers, Bannister, Marrowl Jr., and Royce Wood.

As a true testament to the genteel southerner he was, Edward left this life early to join the welcoming committee of the great heavenly reunion for the yet to be revealed arrival of his high school sweetheart, his devoted wife of 46 years, Patricia (Adams) Wood, whom he loved from the first time he saw her in the Adairsville gym. He was fully aware that the wait may be long as she will likely be late to her own funeral. Future reunion attendees also include: his mother whom he loved dearly, Becky Wood Pasley; his adoring daughter whom he savored spoiling, Suzanne Shuibat (Husam); his kind and talented son of whom he was very proud, Kris Wood; his precious daughter-in-law, Jessica; his enjoyably boisterous grandchildren: Patrick, Lily, and Nicholas Wood and Ayyoob and Abdu Shuibat; and his dear brothers: Eddie Lee, Jimmy, and Ronnie Wood. Other special family members include: Anne and Richard Greene, Phyllis Wood, Brad Greene, Jeff Wood, Lori Mitchell, Jarrod Wood, and Jennifer Truelove; as well as a multitude of other nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of Edward’s life will be held Sunday, November 13, 2016, at 2:00 pm in the chapel at Barton Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Sorrell officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Barton Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Connesena Baptist Church, Kingston. Pallbearers include: Brad Greene, Jeff Wood, Jarrod Wood, Billy Mitchell, Zach Truelove, and Adam Greene. The honorary pallbearers are the 1968 Adairsville Tiger football team.
