Eliza “Lou” Pope Crews, 94, of Manteo, NC, formerly of Lillington, NC, died on Monday, November 7, 2016. Born in Dunn, NC, she was the daughter of the late Worth Milton Pope and Lenora Achenbach Pope. Both a loving mother and a business professional, Lou began as a clerk typist at Fort Bragg during World War II and retired as a Supervisory Contracting Officer. Lou then served for 9 years as the Executive Vice President for the Lillington Chamber of Commerce. The next 30 years were spent caring for her aging loved ones. Lou moved to Manteo 15 years ago to live with her son, Tom and family. She attended Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and loved her Sunday school class.
Lou is survived by two sons, Jim Crews and wife, Karen of Broken Arrow, OK and Tom Crews and wife, Lynette of Manteo, NC; and four grandchildren, Andrew Crews and wife, Laura of Harrisonburg, VA, Jamie Lenora Crews of Manteo, NC, Griff Crews and wife, Katie of Chapel Hill, NC, and Marlowe Crews of Chapel Hill, NC. Included in the family is her beloved caregiver, Carolyn Felton.
Along with her parents, Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Crews, Sr.; and two sisters, Olga Finnie and Dolores Allison.
A funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Westview Cemetery in Lillington, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Food Pantry or Renovation Fund, PO Box 787, Manteo, NC 27954.
