The Austin Daily Herald 1947-10-21 page 11: Alfred Martin Fardahl was born Sept. 25, 1888, at Adams, to Gunhild and John Fardahl.
He was baptized by Rev. Mueller Eggen at Little Cedar Lutheran church and confirmed by Rev. Wm. A. Rasmussen, June 7, 1903.
Alfred attended country school and spent two winters at Southern Minnesota college in Austin.
Later he spent two years in Ambrose, N. D., after which he took a homestead at Isabel, S. D., where he lived two years.
In 1914 he returned to Adams to engage in farming the home place with his two brothers. He was thus occupied until called into service in World war I.
Alfred entered the service February 24, 1918, was sent overseas August 18 and served with the American Army in France until January 19, 1919. He was discharged at Camp Dodge, Iowa, January 31 of the same year. He returned to his home to take up his work with his brothers.
On Sept. 11, 1947, he was taken to Rochester where he submitted to an operation on Sept. 19 at St. Mary's hospital. He passed away Thursday evening, Sept. 25 at the age of 59 years.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John in 1909, his mother on November 11, 1939 and his father on July 24, 1943.
He leaves to mourn his death, one sister, Caroline, three brothers, Louis and Melvin of Adams and Nels of Little Rock, Arkansas, who is serving with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Pacific area at Okinawa.
Alfred was a life long member of Little Cedar Lutheran church, a good and kind neighbor and friend and was devoted to his family. He was a member of the American Legion post of Adams.
His passing will leave an empty place in the family circle, in his church, where he always assumed his responsibility and the American Legion Post of which he was a steadfast member.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, October 1 at 1 o'clock at the home and at 1:30 at Little Cedar church with Rev. Alfred Breivik officiating.
Military services were conducted by the Adams Legion Post at Little Cedar cemetery.
Special music was furnished by Mrs. E. S. Anderson and Mrs. N. V. Torgerson with Miss Ida Anderson at the organ. They sang "Near to the Heart of God" at the home and "The Last Mile of the Way" and "Beyond the Sunset" at church.
Many memorial wreaths were given by friends and relatives, bearing testimony of the high esteem in which Alfred was held.
The pallbearers were Walter Beck, Dr. Louie Huseby, Isaac Koloen, Vance Torgerson, Kenneth Weness and Wilbur Johnson.
Rev. A. Breivik of St. Paul and Rev. D. A. Cunningham of Austin officiated at the cemetery. Taps were sounded by Ruth Hamilton. The firing squads from Adams and Austin were in attendance.
