From Ancestry: Ole (Ola) Olson Erie and wife Sigrid (Larsdatter) Erie lived in Laerdal, Norway. "Erie" was the name of the person who owned all of the land that Ola and Sigrid, as well as seven other families, farmed. They rented a tract of land from the man whose name was "Erie" and built their cottage on this land. It was common practice to add the name of the land baron to your name, thereby designating the farm where you lived, thus becoming Ole (Ola) Olson Erie.
Ola (age 47) and Sigrid (age 46), along with their six children, emigrated from Norway in 1865 to Spring Prairie, Wisconsin and then moved to Adams, Minnesota in 1872.
