Lula was the daughter of L.M. & California "Nancy" [Dawson] Douthitt. She is buried adjacent to her son [Vernon], husband [Hiram], brothers Lee & Edgar. The spelling on her headstone is incorrect [Weddel vs Weddle]. See: Hiram F. Weddle [husband]. Also note: obituary spelling.
In 1900 Lula petitioned the DAWES COMMISSION for admittance into the Cherokee Indian Nation [Dawes Rolls]. The petition included her children. The commissioners ruled in her favor based upon her family genealogy traceable through her mother's father, to a historical Cherokee member Polly Ann [Rogers] Dawson; memorial #5142461. Polly Ann was also an ancestor of Will Rogers the famous Oklahomian.
