Charlotte Joan "Jo" Ferguson was born in London, Ohio on February 7, 1937 to the late Roy Hawkins and Marie Napper. She went home to be with the Lord on June 15, 2010. "Jo" was a wonderful wife, daughter & mother, a devoted grandmother and a fantastic great-grandmother. Jo retired from Grant/Riverside Hospital after several decades. She began cosmetology school while employed at the hospital. She then worked at both the Manalise Beauty Salon and the hospital for more than ten years. After retirement, she made it her mission to volunteer at the elementary schools that her grand and great-grandchildren attended.

Jo was a former member of Second Baptist Church where she served on the usher board and Rachel Circle and was a member of the Concord Choir. She donated her time helping seniors with their doctor's appointments and picking up medications for those without transportation. At the time of her passing, Jo was a valued member of the First Baptist Church, serving as an usher, on the Kitchen Ministry Committee and in "Clothes Closet" at the Broad Street location. She participated in the Myrtle Whited Circle.

Jo is preceded in death by her parents, one son, two sisters; Phyllis Harvey and Alice (Raymond) Brown and two grandchildren; Joshua and Jeri Ferguson. She is survived by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Lemuel Ferguson, Jr.; four children; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many, many other dear relatives and friends.

Funeral services held Monday June 21, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Columbus, Ohio, Rev. Dr. Paul Large, officiating minister; Rev. Leon L. Troy, Sr., eulogist. Entombment followed at Green Lawn Cemetery.

To Those I Love
When I am gone, just release me, let me go
So I can move into my afterglow.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears,
Let's be happy we had so many years.

I gave you my love and you can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it's time I traveled on alone.

So grieve for me awhile, if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted with trust.
It's only for a while that we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away for life goes on,
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near,
with all my love around you soft and clear.

And then, when you must come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and a "Welcome Home".
