Sarah was the daughter of Philip Swigert, a Revolutionary War soldier, and Sarah Gerber.
She married Archibald Mitchell on 5 Feb 1824 in Miami County, Ohio. They settled in Bethel Township, Clark County, Ohio. 14 known children were born to this couple, nine of whom survived to adulthood, and at least 44 grandchildren. Four of their sons served in the Union Army during the Civil War.
All of Sarah and Archibald's children are linked to this memorial except for their second son, John Forgy Mitchell, born 16 Oct 1826, died 6 May 1906 in Springfield, Clark County, Ohio. The location of his burial is not presently available.
