Funeral services for Simon H. Robinson, 72, of New Albany, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann and Naville Funeral Homes, with burial in Evans Landing Cemetery. He died on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006.

He was born to John and Bertha Robinson in Rosewood on Dec. 13, 1934. He met the love of his life, Leona Shelton Robinson in 1953. They fell in love and were married on May 22, 1954. Simon started Robinson Sanitation with a pickup truck in 1969 and had a very successful business for 24 years. He was a member of Embury United Methodist Church and attended Faith and Love Church. He was a life-long member of the Floyd County Coon Hunters Club.

Survivors include his wife, Leona (Shelton) Robinson; a son, Simon E. Robinson, New Albany; two daughters, Becky Gilley, New Albany and Viola Richardson, Waddy, Ky.; two half brothers, Dorsey Robinson and Harvey Robinson Jr., both of Louisville; a sister, Ethel Castile, New Albany; a half sister, Zelma Powell, Louisville; seven grandchildren, Christina Burgess, Emily Keith, Elizabeth Gilley, Daniel Gilley, Kimberly Richardson, Ava Robinson and Ellie Robinson; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Bertha Robinson.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29 and after 9 a.m. Saturday until time of service.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the family.
