Alta Jessop, 99, of Millville passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016, in North Logan Utah. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor. She was born May 31, 1917, in Providence, Utah, a daughter of Alma and Agnes Jessop.
She married Franklin Elmo Jessop (deceased) in Preston, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. She and Elmo lived their entire married lives in the same home in Millville. Since undergoing hip-replacement surgery in 2015, she has resided in a nursing home in North Logan.
Alta attended schools in Millville and Hyrum. She had a genuine love for the gospel. She served in many ward and stake positions in the LDS Church, the schools, and the community. She served as ward Relief Society president and also as president of YWMIA, counselor in Primary, was a Member of DUP, and she also officially served in PTA organizations when her children were in school.
A gourmet cook, her favorite hobby has been cooking. She has made all kinds of delicious foods: meats and vegetable dishes, candies, cakes, and pies. At Christmastime her hand-dipped chocolates were coveted gifts to her family and friends. While coping with greatly reduced vision, her memory remained brilliant. In earlier years she enjoyed sewing and flower arranging.
Alta has enriched the lives of family members and friends with her genuine sense of compassion and caring. She has always been a hard worker, keeping a clean and tidy home and yard. Walking outdoors to keep physically fit was a priority until her fall in 2015. She will be dearly missed but has left her family with fond, happy memories.
Alta was preceded in death by her husband (Elmo), son (Valdon), daughter-in-law (Yula), parents (Alma and Agnes Jessop), and siblings (Ora M. (Earl) Smith and Alma Darel Jessop). Survivors include three children, Twilla (Kenneth) Hansen, Michael (Nancy), and Reunell Bankhead; a sister-in-law (Sherrill Jessop); 25 grandchildren; 65 great- grandchildren; and a growing number of great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend thanks to the staff at Rocky Mountain Nursing and IHC Hospice for their care and concern.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 12:00 noon in the Millville First Ward Chapel, 110 North Main in Millville, with a viewing prior to the services from 10:30 to 11:45 AM.
