William and Joanna lived at Mount Edward, the well-known estate on the Old Preston Road, less than half a mile east of John Allen's tanyard. They had a daughter Frances Mary Brinley, who married William Lawson.
Married second, a widower Hon. Samuel George William Archibald in 1832 in Mount Edward, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Her husband had 15 children by his first wife Elizabeth Dickson (9 still at home). They had 3 more children; Elizabeth Mary, Sarah Maria and Georgina.
Joanna died in 1862 while vacationing in Pisa, Tuscany, Italy.

Joanna Allen died on 15 January 1862 at Pisa, Italy. Judging from Louisa's statement that they all went "up there with her," it appears that Joanna Brinley is still living at Mount Edward.
