Obituary from Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, Shreveport LA:

A Life Celebration Service to honor Mr. Padgett will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Chaplain Larry Bass will serve as officiant for the service. The Family will receive visitors from 5-7 PM on Monday, October 24, 2016 at the funeral home.

His parents Melvin and Elizabeth welcomed Melvin Joe Padgett into this world on July 14, 1951 in Claremore, OK. Proud of his Cherokee heritage, Mr. Padgett was a true outdoorsman and loved returning to Sallisaw, OK any time he could to attend the Stomp Dances. If he wasn't out hunting or fishing, you might find him in the garden cultivating the best peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers or possibly working his way through a book. He was a hard worker as well, earning promotion through the ranks at Brookshires where he retired a store director after 27 years. Most importantly he was a loving husband, devoted father, and a true friend. Joe was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, October 22, 2016.

Preceding Mr. Padgett in death are his daughter Marilyn Padgett, father Melvin Padgett, and sister Anna Young. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of over 44 years, Kathy Frame Padgett, mother Elizabeth Hendricks Padgett, daughters Jennifer Padgett and Erica Corley with husband Adam, sisters Sherry Shaver with husband Terry and Becky Jones with husband John, brother Charles Padgett, grandchildren Hannah Waldrop, Haleigh Padgett, Alexas Bobbitt, Alex "A.J." Bobbitt, great-grandchild Robert "R.J." Morgan and numerous other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in his honor be made to the Alzheimer's Association 's Brain Research Center.
