She was preceded in death by her father, James David Housley, her mother, Charl Helen (Denny) Housley and her parents, Earnest Eugene and Amanda Virginia (Denny) Fry.
She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia R. Strock Thompson of Brewer, Maine and Tracy L. Strock of Cincinnati, Ohio; one granddaughter, Miranda Thompson of Brewer, Maine; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Phippen and Olivia Phippen of Brewer, Maine; her childhood friends, “The Divas”, and her extended family in Connecticut.
She graduated from Pennington High School in 1960 and graduated from Wesleyan University with honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1979 and with a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies in 1981. She was a Wesleyan Etherington Scholar, a member of the first group of non-traditional students returning to college through the community college system.
Throughout her career, she worked and taught at Berea College, Middlesex Community College, Bangor Theological Seminary and Mountain Empire Community College. She was honored as the MECC Adjunct Faculty of the Year in 2015.
She was a published poet with "Annie’s Night Out" selected as a Chapbook Award winner by Nightshade Press in Maine followed by other publications including a poem published in "Anthology of Adrienne Rich."
She owned and operated Wild Mountain Thyme in Pennington Gap, VA.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Sturgill Funeral Home of Pennington Gap, VA. There will be a Celebration of Life on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 1 p.m at the Holy Spirit Catholic Community on hwy 58 east of Jonesville, VA. Interment will follow in Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway.
