U.S. VeteranHerbert Cleveland Cooper, Jr. passed away at his home on September 10, 2016. He was born in Monroe, Georgia and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. After graduating from Andrew Jackson High School in 1952, he joined the Navy and served on the USS Coral Sea at the end of the Korean War.

His Navy training led to his job as an aircraft mechanic foreman at the Naval Air Rework Facilities at Jax NAS and Cecil Field. He traveled all over this country and others repairing Navy aircraft. He retired in 1988 and spent many happy years traveling with his wife to their cabin on Lake Becky in Mountain Rest, SC and hunting and fishing on his beloved Black Creek in Middleburg, FL

He was a man of few words but when he was “picking” his guitar with his bluegrass family, he would sing and sing until the music stopped.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Irma Jean Cooper, his sons Clinton “Hank” Cooper (Pam), Jack “Danny” Cooper (Jeanette), Nathan “Nate” Cooper, his daughter Cynthia “Cindi” Coppola (John), his grandchildren Holly, Bonnie, Jack and Andrew and his sister Mary Frances Ouellette (Bob).

The family would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to the Clay Home Care Team at Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.

A memorial service will be held at South Middleburg Baptist Church, 4565 Alligator Blvd., Middleburg, FL on Saturday September 24, 2016 at 11:00 am.
