Doris “Arlene” Gunderman, age 80 of Clare, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Medilodge Nursing Home in Clare. Arlene was born the daughter of the late Otto and Doris (Chase) Bierlein on August 29, 1936 in Saginaw. She was united in marriage to Glen Gunderman on May 5, 1955, whom she met when they worked together at Dow Chemical. Arlene had lived in the Clare area for the past 61 years; she had been an active member of the First Baptist Church of Clare. Arlene had worked at Dow Chemical as a File Clerk, as well as Western Auto, Clare Hardware and a ParaProfessional at Clare Public School. Doris loved being a mother and grandmother; she enjoyed fishing, camping and was an excellent cook.
Arlene is survived by her husband Glen; sons Pastor Jeff (Sue) of Grand Rapids, Dennis (Beth) and Glen A. both of Clare and Brian (Laura) of Wayland; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; her siblings Jack MacDonald, Judy (Jim) Mitchell, Harry Bierlein and Barbara Adams. Arlene was predeceased by her siblings Peggy Hook, Jean Thompson, Fred, Robert, and Otto Bierlein Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home from 4 to 8 P.M. Services will take place on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Clare with Pastor Douglas Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare. Memorial contributions may be made to The Springs Camp.
