Edwin Lavine Doerr was born on May 2, 1933, in Lovell, and died on Oct. 20, 2016, in Lovell. He was born to Prussian-born immigrant parents, Lavine and Dorothea Doerr. He was the youngest of five children. His siblings were John Doerr, Dela Porter, Minnie Fink and Frieda Wheeler. He grew up speaking German and as a member of the Lutheran Church. He graduated from Lovell High School in 1951.

He was active in Boy Scouts, and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He completed every merit badge available to him. He joined the U.S. Army National Guard and was then drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served in Alaska on the cross-country ski patrol unit. He lived in Lovell on East 5th Street his entire life, except for his time in the military.

Ed married Georgia Herring on Feb. 26, 1959, in Laurel, Mont. Georgia had a 6-year-old son, Dick Herring, who Ed always loved as his own son. David joined their family in March 1970. Ed loved his boys and took them on many hunting and fishing adventures. He loved his grandchildren and always had a wink and smile and hug for them. When family came to visit, he was the first one to greet visitors and the last one to tell them goodbye.

Ed was a skilled carpenter by trade, following in the footsteps of his father. He built many homes in Lovell and surrounding areas. He was an avid fisherman, and had many special spots where he loved to catch walleye, which he brought home for a delicious fish fry. He was a hunter, and loved to roam the Big Horns and Pryors with friends and family. He was an artifact hunter, and loved to find big arrowheads with Georgia.

Ed served on the Lovell Fire Dept. as a volunteer for 32 years. He was honored as The Bravest Fireman. He always enjoyed the friendships he made and comradery that continued after he retired. Ed was always very kind and friendly. Ed had lots of friends in Lovell. He never met a stranger, and he would willingly help anyone.

Ed had many nicknames around town, but those who loved him knew him as Dad, Grandpa, Papa Ed and Gramps. We will miss him.

Ed is survived by his sister, Frieda Wheeler of Lovell, his sweet wife, Georgia, who cared for him so lovingly, especially the past year, his children, Dick Herring of Broadview, Mont., and David (Nichole) Doerr of Spanish Fork, Utah, his grandchildren Sonya and Pat Wambeke of Cowley, Heidi and Bret Bassett of Powell, Sarah Doerr and Ethan Doerr of Spanish Fork, Utah, his great-grandchildren Ty Wambeke, Cole Wambeke, Jess Wambeke, Shelby Wambeke, all of Cowley, Erik Brimhall of Lovell, KaDee Harrison of Lovell, Jacob Harrison of Powell and Zack Bassett of Powell.
