Johnson, Marvin 93 Jan. 06, 1923 July 15, 2016 Marvin Leonard Johnson was born Jan. 6, 1923, to Peter Axel and Hilma Swenson Johnson, the fifth of six children. He passed away peacefully July 15, 2016, with family nearby in Portland. Marvs love of family and humor will be greatly missed. Marvin was born, graduated from high school and married Alma Wulff all in Parkrose. He and Alma stayed there to raise their three children before moving to the Laurelhurst area. He and Alma purchased a cabin at Twin Rocks in the '60s, and this was a much enjoyed second home for the next 50 years. A veteran of World War II, Marv was a proud PT boater, mostly serving as a torpedo man at the Mios Woendi PT Boat Base near New Guinea. After the war, he began a career in sporting goods at J. E. Hazeltine. His employers over the years included Ames Harris Neville Company, Boise Cascade and Leupold & Stevens before he formed his own company as a factory representative. He continued in the business until just before his 90th birthday. Marv enjoyed hunting and fishing, travel, bread baking, eating good food and family events. He belonged to the Parkrose Masonic Lodge, Harmony Lodge and the Danish Brotherhood. Marvin is survived by his daughters, Christine (John) Masterson and Debra Johnson; daughter-in-law, Joyce Johnson; grandchildren, Cassy (Alex) Johnson-Hodge, Daniel (Jennifer) Masterson, Ryan Masterson and Erica Johnson; great-granddaughter, Marian "Maisie" Masterson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Johnson; son, Craig Johnson; brothers, Kenneth, Oliver, Vernon and Robert Johnson; and sister, Dorothy Wills. Marvs memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at Central Lutheran Church, 1820 N.E. 21st Ave., Portland, OR 97212. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Himmelbjerget, c/o Northwest Danish Association.
