Obituary for Pamela Jean Gritts

Pamela Jean Gritts was born June 18, 1952 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She is the daughter of Emmert Leroy Binns and Betty Mae (Donley) Binns. She was raised in the Oskaloosa and Knoxville areas.

On August 7, 1968 she was united in marriage to Eugene Willard Gritts, Sr. and they lived in Knoxville for a few years before moving to Pleasantville. The last ten years, she has resided in Indianola, Iowa. Pam worked as a cook in local restaurants for many years and then after taking accounting classes at Simpson College went on to work in the billing department at Iowa Methodist Hospital for over 10 years. Pam did volunteer work for Shalom Bible College in West Des Moines and in 2009 earned her Master’s Degree as an Ordained Minister.

Pam enjoyed cooking, sewing, embroidery, painting and making ceramics. She was also an avid reader and loved to play cards and put puzzles together with her family. Pam’s greatest joy was her family; she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the annual gathering with her siblings and their extensive families.

Pam passed away peacefully, in her sleep, on October 24, 2016 at the Westview Care Center, in Indianola, at the age of 64 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Emmert and Betty Binns; Sister, Alicia Worthington; Husband, Eugene Gritts, Sr.; Grandchildren: Anthony Russell and Shelly & LaDonna Gritts and her Grandparents, Troy and Alma Binns.

Those left to cherish Pam’s memory include her children: Jeanette Quinnett (Joe White) of Indianola, Tammy Kappelman (Brad) of Swan, Gene Gritts, Jr. (Brenda) of Ankeny, Betsy Gritts of Indianola and Anessa McCoy (Chris) of Portland, Oregon; siblings: Sharon Miller of Aurora, Colorado, Dareld Binns of Sacramento, California, Vonnie Shride of Burlington, Iowa, Vickie Meisinger of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sandra Renard of Knoxville, Kathie Caylor of Columbia, Iowa, Dennis Binns of Knoxville, Iowa, Steve Binns of Knoxville, Iowa, Cheryl Howell of Adel, Iowa and Randy Binns of Oskaloosa, Iowa and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service for Pamela Jean Gritts, age 64 of Indianola, will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service with burial to follow at the Swan Cemetery, located in Swan, Iowa. After the burial service there will be a gathering at Destiny Bible Church in Indianola, Iowa at 4 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Shalom Bible College of West Des Moines, Iowa.
