William Dimery was born in Highland County, Ohio.

He worked as a laborer. At the age of 18 years and one month, he enlisted in the Army at Camp Delaware on July 22, 1864 by Colonel Blackman. He was described as 5'4", a black man with dark eyes and dark hair.

He was mustered in as a Private in Company I, 27th Regiment, United States Colored Infantry. He served until he was discharged as a Private on September 21, 1865.

William died while living in Wilmington, on April 18, 1879.
