Gladys Marie Brungardt, 81, Hays, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at Hays Medical Center. She was born Aug. 20, 1935, in Hays to Gerald and Agnes (Wolf) Leiker.

She married Vitus Brungardt on Aug. 25, 1977, in Hutchinson. He preceded her in death April 28, 2014.

She grew up in Hays and attended Hays High School. She was a waitress for more than 25 years working at The Lamer Hotel, Woolworths, The Coney Island Drive-In, The Mall Restaurant and was a prep cook at Arby's for 10 years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, watching birds, going to the casinos and spending time with her family.

Survivors include three sons, LuVern Lang Jr. and wife, Pam, Tribune, Norman Lang and wife, Rose Marie, La Crosse, and Mark Lang and wife, Lori, Hays; a daughter, Mary Engel and companion, Brian Jacques, Hays; a stepson, Keith Brungardt and wife, Beverly, Vincent; a stepdaughter, Cindy Huser and husband, Bryan, Hays; a daughter-in-law, Terri Brungardt, Hutchinson; a brother, Norman Leiker and wife, Rita, Hays; a sister, Barbara Clarke, Hays; 10 grandchildren, Jenny Spear and husband, Mike, Joshua Kehn and wife, Lisa, Trevor Engel and Susie Obholz, Keaton Lang and wife, Lexi, Chris Lang, Mindy Lang, Jessica Normandin and husband Kyle, Faith Desbien, Quincy Robben and Kelsey Morrow and husband, Lance; 11 great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Patrick Lang; her first husband, LuVern Lang; a son-in-law, Clifford V. "Cliff" Engel; and a stepson, Larry Brungardt.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays. Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Brungardt Family in care of Mary Engel to be designated at a later time.
