The family and community lost a wonderful lady. Grace Eastin, 87, passed away Oct. 10, 2016.

Mom was born in Snowflake, Arizona, Aug. 23, 1929, to John and Emma Whipple. She spent time as a young girl in Fort Apache, where her dad worked for the government for 10 years. Grandpa Whipple always called her his “little peacemaker.”

Later, the family moved to Monticello, Utah, where she went to school and was very active in school and church. She later married Byron Eastin on Sept. 16, 1948, and the marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple May 22, 1965. In 1960, the family moved from Monticello, Utah, to Moab, Utah, where she lived until her passing.

Mom was a special leader to young women in the ward, and spent many days with them on girls’ outings.

Her professional career started with Black Oil Company in Monticello. Upon moving to Moab, she worked as an administrator for Texas Gulf Credit Union and Grand County Credit Union (which later merged). This experience led to her election for the office of Grand County Treasurer, which she held for many years, retiring at the age of 73.

Mother lived a long, fruitful life and on her own terms. She was a very determined lady, which made her a cornerstone for the family and will not be forgotten. Family members both near and far were kept close through her determination.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Eastin; sisters, Nereece Johnson, Elaine Robbins and Carol Waite; and grandson, Scott Littlejohn.

Mother is survived by a sister, Anneva (Dan) Collins; two brothers, Charles (Gloria) Whipple and Loren (Joanne) Whipple. She had two sons, Terrence (Deanne) Eastin and Douglas (Cathy) Eastin. She also had grandchildren, Tricia (John) Downam, Scott (Amber) Eastin, Kim (Adam) Chrisman, Crystal Burnside, Jessica Holderness, Cody (Veronica) Ordner, and Douglas B. (Chelsey) Eastin; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank all of the good friends, excellent neighbors, loving family and church members for the outstanding help and support that enriched the quality of her life
