A PIONEER.

Late Henry Davis.

MANY DESCENDANTS.

A correspondent writes; The death of Henry Davis, of the Billabong Creek, removes an old pioneer from the district. He had carted wool to Sydney with the old bullock dray, and was one of the first to grow wheat in the Parkes district. There was no Parkes in those days, the nearest town being Forbes.

The late Mr. Davis was a native of Windsor, of which town his father, the late William Davis was also a native. His mother came 'from Ireland and was about 100 years old when she died.

Mr. Davis lived at Bumbury for 50 years. He moved to Coobang and then to Parkes (Billabong Creek) where he resided until his death.

Three sons and four daughters survive the old pioneer, the sons being Mr. Henry Davis, Bumbury; Mr. William Robert Davis, Bumbury, and Mr. Edward John Davis, Parkes. The daughters are Mrs, Richard Townsend (Manildra), Mrs. Harry Jackson (Parkes), Mrs. V. G. Townsend (Coo bang), and Mrs. W. Sladden (Sydney). There are also 27 grandchildren, and 44 great-grandchildren.

The late Mr. Davis, whose wife pre deceased him by five years, was quite active until within a few days of his death.
