Alice Mae Strandlund, of Cambridge, MN was 92 years of age when she passed away at Rosewood Senior Living. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arvid and Hilda (Larson) Westberg; husband, Harvey; infant son, Duane; daughter, Alice Faye; brothers, Raymond and Russell Westberg; and sister Lorraine Carlson.


She was born August 9, 1924 in Prentice, Wisconsin to Arvid and Hilda (Larson) Westberg. The family lived in Prentice until Alice was eight years old and then moved to the Brunswick area. She attended grade school in Brunswick and graduated from Mora High School in 1942.


On December 24, 1942 she was united in marriage to Harvey Strandlund at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brunswick. Alice went to live with her sister Lorraine while Harvey served in the Marine Corps during World War II. After Harvey was honorably discharged, they lived in Askov for a short time before moving to Cambridge and raising four daughters.


Alice enjoyed her work as a seamstress making and altering clothing for men and women in the Cambridge area for many years. She sewed dresses and costumes for the Treble Makers, and cheerleading outfits for Cambridge cheerleaders. Alice greatly enjoyed the time she worked at Village Greene Women's Clothing Shop.


Alice enjoyed bowling and played on many different women's leagues over the years. She enjoyed swimming and renting a cabin for the family at Manke's Resort for over 40 years.


Alice loved to play all card games, especially cribbage and she and Harvey often went dancing. She was famous for her hardtack which she made for many to enjoy. Her family enjoyed her homemade bread and caramel rolls every Friday.


Alice was a member of the Cambridge Lutheran Church. She was also a longtime member of the Cambridge American Legion Women's Auxiliary, selling poppies and bringing apples to the school teachers.


Funeral Service was 2 p.m., Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Cambridge Lutheran Church. Interment was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Brunswick.
