She was an Uruguayan model. She died of heart failure caused by anorexia nervosa while participating in a fashion show.On August 2, 2006 at about 9:15pm, Luisel Ramos died of heart failure while participating in a fashion show during Fashion Week in Montevideo, Uruguay. Ramos felt sick after her turn on the catwalk, and passed out on her way to the dressing room. She died at the young age of 22 years old. Luisel's father told the police she had gone days without eating.

Her death followed a converstion in which she was told that if she would "drop some weight" she could make it big. For several months before her death she lived on Diet Coke and green leafy vegetables such as lettuce leaves.


It was the death of Luisel Ramos that led to the banning of "size zero" girls walking the runway in Madrid, Spain. Models must have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 18 now.
