Earl Kelly Dean, 83, of Elkton, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at Harrisonburg Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Earl was born July 16, 1933, and was a son of the late Addie V. (Eppard) and Matthew McKinley Dean.

He was a well driller, carpenter, and later a farmer.

On April 24, 1959, he was united in marriage to Mary Sue (Garber) Dean, who preceded him in death on January 27, 2010.

Earl is also survived by three daughters, Mona Dean and companion Michael Modesto, of Shenandoah, Betsy Cosner, of Berrytown, and Brenda Morris and husband Richard, of Shenandoah; six grandchildren, William Fetterolf Jr., Amber Kite, Heaven Brown (Benjamin), Barry McCauley Jr., Vanessa Modesto, and Angelica Modesto; two great-grandsons; and numerous nieces and a nephew.

Earl was preceded in death by five siblings whom he loved very much, Pearl Royer, Christine Hensley, Margaret Shifflett, Irene Shifflett, and, Elwood Dean.

A funeral service will be conducted 2PM Friday, October 21, 2016, at Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes, with Rev. Wayne Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8PM Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the funeral home.
