Mary Phyrl Curtis Black was born Friday, January 18, 1924 in Garfield, Utah to Ruel Curtis and Mary Zola Harward. She was the eldest of eleven children.
She married Oris George Black on October 5, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had six children.
She grew up in the Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City and was a graduate of South High School, Class of 1942.
Phyrl was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served a mission in the Northern States Mission. She faithfully served in many ward callings in Blanding, where she lived most of her married life.
Phyrl passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 1991 at her home due to complications from diabetes.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 1, 1991 at 12:00 p.m. in the Blanding North Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 255 East 200 North in Blanding. Calling hours were held on Monday, September 30, 1991 from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at San Juan Mortuary located at 370 South Main Street in Blanding, and from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
Phyrl was laid to rest following the conclusion of the funeral services at the Blanding City Cemetery in Blanding.
