QUINCY, Mass. - Dr. Richard D. Houghton, 70, died Oct. 12, 2016, at his home in Quincy.
He was a devoted son, brother, husband and father throughout his prime years. After graduation from Boston State College, he was a teacher at Abington Junior High School in Massachusetts, and teacher at Walpole and Concord State Prisons, before being graduated from New England College of Optometry in 1975.

He joined the practice of Dr. Robert Moody in Waterville, beginning a long and distinguished career serving his patients and establishing Kennebec Eye Care.

Nicknamed "The Captain," he loved leading outdoor activities including boating on China Lake, campfires, and surrounding himself with friends and family. Dick was a quiet, confident and introspective man who spoke most lovingly through his actions.

Richard is survived by his mother, Mary M. Houghton of Quincy; son Richard and daughter-in-law Yulia Houghton, son Charles Houghton; wife Rosemary G. Houghton; granddaughters Sarianna and Miroslava Houghton; and brother Donald and sister-in-law Lynne Houghton.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial in St. Ann's Church, Quincy. Visiting hour prior to Mass is from 9-10 a.m. in the Lydon Chapel for Funerals, 644 Hancock St., Quincy, Mass. Interment will be in Milton Cemetery, Milton, Massachusetts.
