Barbara Jones, wife of Carl H. Jones from the Burnside community of Philadelphia, MS stepped into eternity Friday, October 14, 2016. Barbara and Carl had been married almost 63 years. They had two children, Carl Douglas Jones (Leslie) of Philadelphia and Brenda Jo Bell (Brent) of Columbus MS. She had 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Barbara was known in the Philadelphia area as the blonde lady at JC Penneys for 21 years. She was a quiet woman who always tried to please and serve everyone she met. She was a great cook and her dishes at any potluck at Salem Baptist Church were always a hit. She also made the best sugar cookies around. She was a member at Salem Baptist Church for over 40 years.
She was originally from Noxapater, the daughter of E L and Josephine Greenwood. The oldest of 5, she had 2 brothers; Dan Greenwood (Linda) of Noxapater, Don Greenwood (Carol) of Noxapater, and 2 sisters; Sue Livingston (Frank) of Gulfport and Tessie Higgenbothem (Carl) of Louisville. Her parents, brother Dan, and daughter Brenda all preceded her in death. She was 81.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a gift to Blair Batson Children Hospital or Gideon International.
Visitation will be at Stephens Chapel Funeral Home Sunday October 16, 2016 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm and Monday October 17 from 11:00-12:00 with services at 12:00 in the chapel and internment at the Mississippi Veterans Cemetery in Newton, MS. Rev Doug Jones and Dr Dan Howard will officiate with Rev Duaine Morgan honorary minister.
