Vergil Lee Goodin, 80, of Bimble, died Friday, October 14, 2016 in Baptist Hospital, Lexington. Vergil was born August 7, 1936 in Bimble to the late Joseph Neuman, and Amanda Bright Goodin.

He was a former history teacher for Knox Central High, loved dogs, farmed, and helped build a lot of houses for his family. Vergil was a member of Springfield Baptist Church.

He was preceded by several siblings in addition to his parents, Velma June Hensley, Margaret Belle Payne, Joe Willard Goodin, George William Goodin, Ruby Elzetta Wilburn, Edith Mae Gambrel, and Arthur Elvin Goodin.

Surviving is a sister, Edna Gambrel and a sister in law, Margaret Walker Goodin, both of Bimble, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday at Hopper Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Helton and Rev Johnny Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodin Family Cemetery, at Bimble. Pallbearers will be Patrick Goodin, Drue Ferguson, Steve Hensley, Keith Hensley, Joe Goodin, Dwain Gambrel, David Hensley, Roger Hensley, Donald Hensley, Chris Hensley and Tony Goodin.

Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 pm, and Tuesday after 9 am until the funeral hour.
