Excerpt from Eliza Ferrell's Civil War Pension Application
On this 22nd day of August A.D. 1870 personally appeared before the undersigned author, Eliza Ferrell a resident of Hawkins County, State of Tennessee a person respectable and entitled to credit and after being duly sworn states on oath that.....
The father died about three years before said soldier entered the United States service at about the age forty years.
The names of the children are as follows:
1. John Ferrell about the age of 16 years
2. Banks Ferrell about the age of 14 years
3. Wesly Ferrell about the age of 12 years
4. Tamsey Ferrell about the age of 10 years


Excerpt from Eliza Ferrell's Civil War Pension Application
On this 24th day of July A.D. 1871 personally appeared before the undersigned authority Eliza Ferrell and made oath in due form of law that...The father of said soldier died before contribution was made.
5th the names and ages residences and pecuniary circumstances of the other children is as follows:
John Ferrell born 30 april 1853
Banks Ferrell born 16 January 1855
Wesley Ferrell born 10 April 1857
Tamsy Ferrell born 11 March 1860


The Morristown Gazette

The Whitesburg Independent learns that on the 28th of November in Lee Valley, Hawkins county, Newton Willis killed a young man by the name of Wesley Ferrell, first shooting him with a shot-gun and then six times with a revolver.

We understand that the young man, Newton Willis, who killed Wesley Ferrell in Lee Valley, Hawkins county a week or two ago, was entirely justifiable in the act. Ferrell was a dangerous man and had made fearful threats to kill Willis and was prepared to carry out his threats when he was himself shot down.

The Morristown Gazette

A Rogersville correspondent to the Knoxville Tribune, under date of the 15th, reports another homicide in Hawkins county, recently. Newt. Willis, a young man who had earned the reputation of a desperado, was killed by a man named Mayabb. Mayabb has not been arrested. The killing was regarded not only as justifiable, but as a thing not at all surprising to any one acquainted with the victim.
