He was born in North Branch, MN to Dora and Oliver Alvin on April 16, 1927. After he graduated from North Branch High School, he served in the Coast Guard near the end of WWII. He married Ruth Nelson on July 16, 1948. Allan worked for the B.F. Goodrich Company for many years in positions that took him to Mason City, Iowa; Pipestone, Minnesota; Anchorage, Alaska; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Rhinelander, Wisconsin. He and his wife, Ruth, spent their retirement years in Rhinelander, WI where they were active members of Calvary Baptist Church.
Allan was an avid sportsman. No matter where he lived, there were always fish to catch and game to hunt. In Alaska, Allan owned a Super Cub airplane and became an accomplished bush pilot. At one time, he was a guide for Rust's Flying Service. Being and Alaskan pilot allowed Allan and his sons opportunities to hunt and fish together. In his retirement years, he and Ruth enjoyed sharing their lake home with children, grandchildren, and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Howard (Mark); sons: Robert, John (Janette), Jay (Connie), and David (Katie); eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Allan was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, his parents, and his brother, Oliver Robert.
Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in North Branch, MN.
